Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising, London, England
Usually when visiting London, travellers flock to Big Ben or the Royal Palace, but a small hidden treasure lies among the capital city. The Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising holds over 12,000 items in its collection and gives a look into the history that led to the JumboTron ads in Times Square or even the colour schemes on the latest lipstick brand.
You can see posters, toys, games, all organized into a timeline for a thorough chronological look through the years, including cosmetics from the late 1800’s.
The Underground, Seattle, USA
In Seattle, Washington, below the streets of the downtown area is an underground world long since abandoned. In the late 1800’s, the now underground town was ground level and full of buildings and shops made from wood. When a great fire arose and destroyed much of the town, the city leaders decided to raise the streets one or two stories higher and build the new buildings from stone instead.
The Underground city stills exists and since 1965 can be viewed by taking a tour beneath the streets. You can take the adult-oriented tour that discusses the speakeasies and gambling halls which the buildings were used for after the city condemned it in 1907.
Suzhou, China
Located on the Yangtze River is the most charming town in China, Suzhou. One of the biggest attractions in the city are the more than 70 gardens here, eight of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although the gardens are quite popular, you can also take a boat ride down the small canals, take in the historic architecture, and stroll down the tree-lined lanes.
Florianopolis, Brazil
Often said to be the nicest city in Brazil, this gorgeous piece of paradise boasts more than 40 beaches and is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations in the country. Don’t be fooled though, you won’t see the herds of tourists crammed along these shorelines. You will have a beautiful, peaceful holiday without the crowds and noise. Enjoy trekking to a lake in the middle of the island for a more secluded trip.
Myanmar
This Southeast Asian country often called Burma is a little-know destination for tourists. Though rarely visited, it exhibits a charming culture that is an absolute must to visit. Yangon, the largest city in the country is often the main entry point for visitors. You will find its most exciting destination to be the Shwedagon Pagoda. This 99m tall Pagoda is the most important religious site in Burma. Another feature is the circular railway that travels through small villages and through the rice fields of the country.
Ouarzazate, Morocco
When visiting the beautiful country of Morocco, most think of Casablanca or Marrakesh, but you’ll want to visit the secret gem of Ouarzazate. This town’s name literally translates to without noise. Once upon a time, it may have been this way, but now it is a town full of hustle and bustle. When visiting, you will want to take a look at one of the best preserved kabashes, the Ait Benhaddou.
This town has been the back drop of many famous television shows and movies, including The Mummy Returns and The Kingdom of Heaven. Two studios are on the same road and would be an exciting adventure for families: Atlas Studios and CLA studios.
Montenegro
Right along the Adriatic Sea coast is Montenegro. Though it’s not as popular as Croatia, Montenegro is a hidden gem with sprawling, sandy beaches and an uncrowded feel. Take a visit to the Bay of Kotot, one of the most beautiful bays in the world, or participate in the rising interest in adventure sports. Head out on a kayaking, white-water rafting, or scuba-diving trip.
Salar De Uyuni
Lying in southwest Bolivia is a photographer’s dream and an impressive sight to take in is the world’s largest salt flat, Salar De Uyuni. The salt flat is over 6,500km in size and is a breeding ground for pink flamingos. This isn’t the only attraction in the area; you can also visit a unique train cemetery and stay in a hotel made from salt blocks.
Whale Island, Vietnam
If you’re looking for a relaxing island holiday, look no further than this resort island. Lounge on the beach beneath coconut trees and swim among coral in clear blue waters on this relatively untouched stretch. The bungalows on the beach will make for a perfect place to lounge and read while taking in the salty ocean air.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Bali
Take a glimpse of the typical Balinese countryside beauty with the Tegalang Rice Terrace. You’ll find flooded rice fields settled along coconut groves. Along the roadside you’ll find beautiful, colourful wooden carvings of flowers and animals.
Karst Mountains, China
This long range of rock formations is a spectacle to see. Explore the area by boat or by foot and don’t forget to snap some pictures along the way.
Badab-e Surt Spring, Mazandaran, Iran
Located in the Mazandaran Province, Badab-e Surt is a naturally carbonated mineral water that produces red, orange, and yellow hues. The untouched waters have incredible healing powers for skin ailments. Iran doesn’t seem like the first place for a hidden jewel like this, and with that, you won’t find the location overrun with tourists.
