Travel GP Service

We know holidays are rare and precious. Cover-More is committed to keeping you safe, connected and healthy on your travels. That's why we offer our complimentary Travel GP* service to Cover-More policyholders when suitable. It is the first and only telemedicine (over-the-phone) service of its kind in New Zealand and Australia.

Travel GP Benefits

Language barriers and varying healthcare standards can be challenging overseas. This can make things more difficult if you fall sick. To help with accurate diagnosis and treatment, we offer access to our Travel GP* service. This service is free of charge, and it may be offered to New Zealand policyholders if it’s suitable for their situation.

All our doctors are registered with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. They are qualified to give medical consultations with the familiarity you're used to at home.

Travel GP is ideal if you're unwell, but you don’t think you’re sick enough to visit the hospital. When you need help, call our team from the comfort of your hotel room and get the advice you can trust.

What common conditions can I get help with?

We provide over-the-phone medical advice. You can even send our GPs photos via email to help with their consultation. It's no surprise that 60% of our Travel GP customers recover quickly and get back travelling. Some common conditions our doctors help with include:

  • Cough/Cold/Flu-like symptoms
  • Diarrhoea
  • Earaches
  • Gastroenteritis
  • General advice regarding own medication
  • Mild fever
  • Rashes
  • Throat symptoms
  • Vertigo/dizziness
  • Vomiting

How does Travel GP work?

If you are feeling unwell, first call our Medical Assistance team.

Our Medical Assistance registered nurse will assess if your condition can be managed by a Travel GP. If Travel GP isn’t suitable, we’ll refer you to the nearest suitable medical facility or hospital for specialised treatment. If Travel GP is suitable, one of our Travel GPs will call you back to assess and recommend treatment.

If further medical treatment is required: 

Our Travel GP will transfer you on the phone back to our Medical Assistance team. Our team will identify your location and help you find the nearest suitable medical facility or hospital for help.

If further medical treatment is not required: 

You are free to keep travelling on your journey and can call our Medical Assistance team at any time if you feel that you’re not getting better.
