Does an Inbound Plan suit me?

We offer inbound travel insurance cover for non-New Zealand residents travelling to New Zealand. Our Inbound Plan can protect your trip if you are 69 years old or younger.

Are you visiting a few countries along the way? That’s okay! As long as you spend the majority of your time in New Zealand, we can cover your other destinations too. This means that if you’re travelling to Australia or anywhere else in between as well as New Zealand, we can cover your entire trip. From the moment you leave your door until you return home, we can protect your travel adventures.

Keep in mind that some of our COVID-19 benefits are only included in the Inbound Plan while travelling in New Zealand, and do not cover other countries you may visit during your trip. Read the Policy Wording for full terms and conditions, and exclusions.

Tailoring your policy

We understand that each trip is different - that’s what makes travelling so exciting. You are able to tailor our Inbound Plan to suit your budget and travel needs. Want to increase your coverage? No problem! You can tailor your policy to include activities such as snow sports. At Cover-More, we also give you the option to choose unlimited cancellation cover. If you are travelling with valuable items, then consider increasing your luggage limits to protect them. You can increase the luggage limit up to $10,000 per item. How do I buy an Inbound Plan?

It’s great to hear you are interested in protecting your trip to New Zealand! Travel insurance is an important part of the planning process. Purchasing an inbound policy only takes a few minutes. When you visit our website, you will find our quote box where you enter your travel details which generates a quote.

Simply type ‘New Zealand Inbound’ in the destination section that asks where you are going. Enter in the dates of your entire trip, the current ages of all travellers and then select ‘No’ where it asks if all travellers live in New Zealand. Click ‘Get Quote’ and you’ll then be taken to the plan options page.

You can now adjust the levels of cover to suit you. Select your excess amount from $0, $100, or $250. Consider tailoring your cover to include snow sports or choose the level of cancellation cover that suits you. If you are travelling with valuable items, you can also increase the luggage limit benefit up to $10,000 per item.

Continue entering your details and finalise your travel insurance policy. Our payment options include Visa or MasterCard. All payments are taken in New Zealand dollars.

Increase your luggage item limits

When you’re at home you look after your belongings, and when you travel it should be no different. Our Inbound Plan provides luggage cover up to $25,000, although be sure to check the Policy Wording as item limits apply. We can protect your camera and video camera up to $3,000, as well as your laptop or tablet computers up to $3,000. For other items, a benefit of up to $1,500 applies.

For higher valued items, you may want to consider increasing the item limits by paying an additional premium. If you are increasing the cover limit for more than one item, the overall increase in limits cannot exceed $25,000. Keep in mind that you may be required to provide receipts or valuations for these items in the event of a claim.

Cover for existing medical conditions

Our Inbound Plan automatically covers a range of existing medical conditions. We can provide cover for common conditions including Gout, Hiatus Hernias, Raynaud’s Disease, and many more. Visit our existing medical conditions page to find out which medical conditions we can automatically cover and the coverage criteria. Alternatively, you can refer to our Policy Wording for further information. It is important to understand that we cannot provide cover under an inbound policy for any existing medical conditions outside of those offered automatically as part of the policy.

Rental vehicle excess cover

New Zealand has plenty of wide-open spaces for you to explore! A great way to get around is by hiring a rental vehicle and seeing where the road takes you. Our cover for rental vehicle excess also applies to campervans. Make sure you hold appropriate authority and licences to drive a car in New Zealand. In some cases, you will not only be required to have a driver's licence from your home country but you may also need an international driver's licence or permit. If you are thinking of hiring a vehicle during your trip, you will be pleased to know that rental vehicle excess cover is included in our Inbound Plan with benefits up to $10,000.

This cover applies if you:

  • hire a rental vehicle;
  • are the nominated driver on the rental vehicle agreement; and
  • have comprehensive motor vehicle insurance for the rental vehicle during the hire period.

It is important to note that we will not pay for:

  • Any damage or theft, arising from the operation of a rental vehicle in violation of the terms of the rental agreement.
  • Administration costs or loss of use penalties.

Protection for snow sports

If you are interested in skiing, snowboarding, or snowmobiling – you can find all of these activities in New Zealand during the winter months. When planning a trip to the slopes, make sure you add our Snow Sports Cover option to your inbound policy for an additional cost. You are protected provided you are on-piste, not racing, and not participating in a professional capacity.
